Winter has reached Algarve. Now what?

Winter is here! The Algarve is usually seen as a terrific holiday destination for the summer, but the truth is that there is a lot to see, visit or experience all year round!

The Salgados Lagoon

A vast natural system of lagoons with splendid views, long pathways and a rich animal life just waiting to be discovered! Totalling more than 60 km in length, this protected area is full of migratory and local bird species. From the rarest,to the seasonal,  the Salgados Lagoon is widely considered a prime area for birdwatching in Portugal!

If there is one activity that a beautiful winter day begs for, is ... nothing! Never underestimate the truly regenerating powers of a carefully planned day to fully relax and recharge!

Via Algarviana

Quite a treat to walk through for most of the year, Via Algarviana (Algarvian Route) is a fantastic well-marked route that covers a total of 11 counties in the Algarve! Travel it safely, on foot or by bicycle, with family or friends. The stretch that crosses this municipality runs from Albufeira to Alte and has a length of about 28 km, starting at the Albufeira Tourist Office and ending at Ribeira de Alte. If the weather is favorable, why not venture out?

Visit Paderne Castle

A historic and iconic monument located in Paderne, this building was originally of military character and was built during the Muslim occupation of the territory. It would be conquered by Christians in 1248 and is nowadays considered one of the county’s most famous sights!

The historic center of Albufeira

With much to see a, the centre of Albufeira is close to the beach and contains numerous landmarks, such as the historic Torre do Relógio (one of the most popular and most photographed spots in the city) and Torre Medronheira (an old watchout post of the XVI century). Also worthy of your attention should be a short visit to the Archaeological Museum and to the Museum of Sacred Art.
