A shellfish similar to clams and one of Madeira’s most cherished delicacies. Served sizzling in a pan with garlic butter, piri-piri and coriander, they arrive with slices of fresh lemon. Ask for plenty of napkins — they’re meant to be eaten with your hands, as tradition dictates.
A traditional flatbread made with wheat flour and sweet potato, cooked on a basalt stone that gives it its shape. Best enjoyed piping hot, with garlic and parsley butter. Try a Prego in Bolo do Caco: you’ll never look at a steak sandwich the same way again.
